Voluntary car scheme

The voluntary car scheme has been suspended.

If you need essential transport during the current health emergency. Call 0333 240 69 65 (option 5 – charged at local rates) or email: integrated.transport@cumbria.gov.uk

Update from Cumbria County Council

We have developed a service to cover this provision during the COVID-19 pandemic which will commence on Monday 06/04/20.

Individuals who are unable to secure appropriate home to hospital transport for the purpose of attending out-patients appointments can contact Cumbia County Council’s Transport Services Team via telephone 0333 2406965 (option 5) or email integrated.transport@cumbria.gov.uk.

Details of the request will be captured and forwarded to the appropriate district area Hub who will arrange transport provision using Cumbria County Council’s Transport Operational Team (CTOT). CTOT staff usually provide transport for children and older adults when the schools and day centres are operating so are ideally placed to deliver this service. Patients will be transported in CTOT’s fleet of minibuses which will enable social distancing measures to be maintained.

Lowick, Blawith and Oxen Park voluntary car scheme

The voluntary car scheme provides transport to members of the community of any age who cannot make their journey by public or private transport. Under 16’s must be accompanied by an adult and any appropriate car/booster seats must be supplied.

Typical journeys include hospital appointments and visiting, doctors or dentists appointments, public transport connections, visiting friends and getting to the shops.

Requests need to be a few days in advance and we will do our best to supply a driver.

There is a small mileage charge of 45p per mile.

If you would like to make use of this service or are interested in driving for the scheme, please phone the local contact Marguerite on 01229 885498.
